The former Jersey Shore star is opening up about her past addiction to (and expensive) painkillers and the lowest point in her life as she rose to fame on the reality show.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino in his new memoir, “Reality Check: Making the Best of the Situation – How I Overcame Addiction, Loss, and Prison.” , talked about his former drug addiction. He currently lives in New Jersey with his wife Lauren and two children. He talks about his first try with heroin, his stint in rehab in 2015, and how he ended up taking painkillers while filming MTV’s “Jersey Shore.” He also talked about how his fame and money fueled his addiction.
“I was a young, wild, carefree kid, and when I gave my kids millions of dollars and had Ferraris and Lambos and girls screaming my name and being a yes-man everywhere, It was hard to stop,” Sorrentino told ET’s Rachel Smith. “That’s been my problem for years: How do I turn off excess?” And I don’t think it was just my problem. Most people in our world, the celebrity world and the entertainment world, have a problem with turning off that extra button.
He estimated that he spent about $500,000 to support his own habit, and put that amount at “the equivalent of attending a good college.” Fund.
Sorrentino was also “always high” while appearing on season 11 of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and was involved in passing drugs through the TSA while traveling domestically and internationally filming “Jersey Shore.” He also told ET that he had smuggled .
He thanked his wife, who is pregnant with his third child, and his mother, Linda, for helping him overcome his addiction. Sorrentino will mark eight years of alcoholism in December, he told ET.
